Rainbow loom

I guess these things are so popular right now.  And its for boys and girls, they all like them.   Since the last time Valerie came over and showed NN how to make them,  we started looking at different youtube videos and learning how to make some really cool patterns without the rainbow loom.  (That's right,  all sold out)

And poor Nathan loves his bracelets so much that he wears them all the time.  (Especially those glow in the dark ones) And today when we were at Funtastic Nite,  because he had to get a Pokemon arm painting,  he took them off and left them on the table.   By the time he realized,  the whole place was cleaned up and he couldn't find them anymore.   He was really understanding, sad, but he sucked it up and we left.  Unfortunately he accidently bumped his head really badly while getting in the car.  He just couldn't control it anymore and he wailed.  I felt so bad because he never cries like that.  You should see the way Naomi tried to comfort him because gor gor just doesn't cry like this.  Good that  Naomi offered to give him the bracelet that she made for me, then he stopped crying.

Of course later on we talked about how we wouldn't just leave things on the table because its easy to lose things behind.   But at this point showing sympathy was more important so we joked around and I offered him an extra long long hug and kiss to lighten up his mood.   And I told him I love him, which I find that I don't say enough to the people I love.

Four teachers in one Kindergarten class?

Naomi said there is now a fourth teacher in her class.  (I suspect a student teacher).  Class size is about 20 kids.  It's nice to see a good kid : teacher ratio (5:1) in the public school system so the kids can get more attentions.

SK years has been good.  Naomi enjoying her new first year of full day kindergarten. Since Naomi has a new class teacher this year, I was worried that she might be under challenged and be bored of school.  (Her last teacher was really good in differentiated instruction and gave her works that was appropriate to Naomi's level.  Naomi said that closer to the end of the school year, she was working at the elementary level). Good that Naomi seems to be liking SK a lot.

Since September, homework that was sent home was very JK.  Worksheet with printing letters and drawing pictures that begins with the letter.  I was thinking, even if the teacher has no idea who level Naomi performs at, at least send SK level things.....

Being a teacher, I am working really hard to not be judgmental and try very very hard to bit my tongue and not say a lot of things because I respect the teachers and have faith in my kids that they can deal with all kinds of situations.  I don't want to raise my kids to have mom and dad to fight every battle for them. But during the curriculum night (Not meant for parent-teacher interview), I just couldn't keep my big mouth shut and finally asked Naomi's new teacher when she is done assessing Naomi's level and send home readings and work that are more engaging to Naomi.  The teacher said she knew that Naomi is really good and she is acting as little helper in class for the JK kids......She said that assessment is almost completed and she will be sent home readings real soon.

Finally, this week Naomi took home her first snuggle book that speaks a little more like her level.  I like that Naomi gets to be teacher's little helper and develop her leadership skills, but I also want her to keep being engaged, challenged,  and most importantly, enjoy learning.

New sleeping arrangement

Even since Naomi left mommy and wanted to sleep in her own room when she was 3, mommy and daddy have been enjoying their good night sleep.  (New parents, don't be jealous, this too shall pass and very soon your baby will be sleeping through the night.... well most of the nights :)

Then ever since Hilpy came over to Canada, Naomi gave up her room (initial plan was just for that week), and moved her mattress into Nathan's room.  What was a temporary arrangement some how became permanent.  NN enjoyed each other company and they both slept better (without calling mommy too frequently).

Bedtime routine (start time:  7:30pm) has been consistent, medium in length (a little time consuming as lots of requests, but not too much to the point that mommy would get mad).  When mommy kisses goodnight, NN would talk and play for a bit before really falling asleep.  Naomi usually falls asleep first (around 8:30pm), then Nathan, usually around 9pm.

And of course there is this new twist to the story.  It all started with the night Naomi started taking Taekwondo.  That night, Nathan has homework to do, so Naomi went to bed first.  Without the nightlight on, Naomi fell asleep in less than 5 minutes.  And here the problem started.....

Naomi said she can't fall asleep with the light on, but Nathan is afraid of the dark and has to have the night light on.  And of course, Naomi was mad and couldn't sleep well.  So mommy made the first mistake of letting Naomi fell asleep in my bed.  That three nights in a row, Naomi called me over to her bed and wouldn't let me leave, literally sleeping on top of me.

Finally, we came up with the ultimatum.  Naomi goes to bed before 8:00pm, in pitch dark and door closed.  Than Nathan would go to sleep at 8:30pm after Naomi falls asleep.  It has been working well for them and mommy :) The only problem is one night Mommy has forgotten to ask Nathan go to bed..... Nathan now sets his cool watch alarm at 8:30pm to remind himself.

And the next step is moving Naomi to her room eventually when they get older....

Morning sunshine

Who can complain when you wait up to such smile.
This day was picture day.  Naomi looks so so cute.  But of course,  after picture day was done,  mommy found a note in her school bag communication folder saying a lot of "don'ts" including "don't wear bold colour. "  Is deep red considered to be a deep colour? ?
